PlayStation Trophies
PlayStation trophies — also called PSN trophies — are the achievements you unlock on PS5, PS4, PS3 and PS Vita for completing in-game challenges. Every trophy is recorded on your PlayStation Network profile, ranks you on the trophy leaderboards, and raises your overall trophy level. This page explains how the whole system works, from your first Bronze to a coveted Platinum — and points you to the quickest and easiest platinum trophies to grow your collection fast.
The four trophy types
Every PlayStation trophy is one of four types. Each is worth a fixed number of points that feed into your trophy level:
- Bronze — 15 points. The most common trophy, usually given for routine progress.
- Silver — 30 points. Awarded for tougher or longer milestones.
- Gold — 90 points. Reserved for major accomplishments and harder challenges.
- Platinum — 180 points. The top trophy. A game can have only one, and it unlocks automatically the moment you earn all of its other trophies.
How the trophy level works
Your trophy level is a single number — currently from 1 up to 999 — worked out from the points of every trophy you have ever earned. Sony rebalanced the scale in 2020, so the level now climbs quickly at first and then needs progressively more EXP at higher tiers. Because rarer trophies are worth far more, a handful of Gold and Platinum trophies move your level much faster than a long list of Bronze ones. The fastest way to climb is simply to earn more Platinums — which is exactly what our easy platinum guide is built for.
Trophy rarity
PlayStation labels every trophy by rarity — the share of players who have actually earned it. The scale runs from Common, through Rare and Very Rare, down to Ultra Rare, which only a small fraction of players (around 5% or fewer) ever unlock. A game’s Platinum is frequently Ultra Rare, which is part of why platinum hunters chase them. Rarity is a great difficulty signal: pair it with our difficulty and time-to-platinum ratings when deciding what to play next.
How to earn a Platinum trophy
There is no shortcut button — a Platinum unlocks only once you have every other trophy in the game — but some games make it far quicker than others. The trick is choosing the right games. Start here:

PlayStation trophies FAQ
What are PlayStation trophies?
PlayStation trophies (also called PSN trophies) are achievements awarded on PS3, PS4, PS5 and PS Vita for completing specific in-game challenges. Every trophy you earn is tracked on your PlayStation Network profile and counts toward your overall trophy level.
What are the four PlayStation trophy types?
There are four trophy types, in ascending value: Bronze (worth 15 points), Silver (30 points), Gold (90 points) and Platinum (180 points). Bronze trophies are the most common and Platinum is the single trophy awarded for unlocking every other trophy in a game.
What is a Platinum trophy?
A Platinum trophy is the highest PlayStation trophy. A game can have at most one Platinum, and it unlocks automatically once you have earned all of that game's other Bronze, Silver and Gold trophies. Most PS5 retail games and many PS4 games include a Platinum; smaller titles and most DLC do not.
How does the PlayStation trophy level work?
Your trophy level is a single number (currently from 1 up to 999) calculated from the points of every trophy you have ever earned. Sony rebalanced the system in 2020, so rarer Platinum and Gold trophies push your level up far faster than Bronze trophies do.
What does trophy rarity mean?
Rarity is the percentage of players who have earned a given trophy. PlayStation labels trophies from Common down to Ultra Rare — an Ultra Rare trophy is earned by only a small fraction of players (around 5% or fewer). Difficult Platinums are very often Ultra Rare.
Can you get a Platinum on free games?
Yes. Plenty of free-to-play and free PS Plus games include a Platinum trophy, and there are many extremely quick and easy platinums you can earn at no cost. See our list of free games with a platinum trophy.
